Just wanted to give you all some back story:
I’m a PK. My dad has been a pastor all my life- my uncles, my grandfather, other family members, etc. I had no intention of becoming a pastor. I met Jesus at the age of seven and we have been friends ever since. I grew up mainly in Bakersfield and left home for college in Southern Cal. I went to help with production at Focus on the Family while attending (FOF) Institute. I attended the Los Angeles Film Studies Center (LAFSC) and got to hang out with movie stars on set as a production and casting assistant.
I graduated California Baptist University (CBU) in 1999 with a B.F.A. in ministry (which was the first degree of it’s kind- I made it up in response to a calling from God). God led me on a journey that has prepared me for this calling.
In that time:I started a band, recorded and EP; Wrote articles for trade magazines; Put artwork on display in businesses and art galleries; Made mini movies; Started multiple businesses, everything from home cleaning to skateboard manufacturing to a design and printing firm; Acted on stage, on screen- pretty much anywhere I could get a laugh; Taught English, graphic design, drama, etc. for five years; Helped to start two churches, one in Southern Cal and another in Hawaii; And through it all drove my wife crazy, whom I married in 2002, while wearing flip-flops on a cliff overlooking the ocean; We spent 2004- 2007 in Hawaii, on the Big Island, Hilo side; We moved seven times and lived in rooms, garages, shacks, lean-to’s, anything that kept us dry; We taught and ministered to the locals through our church and our work as teachers and had our baby boy, Cavin, in March of 2007 (We found out we were pregnant at a KOA camp in Amarillo, Texas, which is another fun story); We could see that God was bringing our Hawaiian adventure to a close and we moved back exactly a year ago.
Prior to moving, I sent out about 150 resumes all over the country and got two offers, both in Merced, which is weird because my parents have lived here for 11 years. I started working for an advertising firm, was laid off in January with four other unlucky folks and was hired at Yosemite Church in February ‘08.
Who are you?
